Learning on Dawang (LoD)
Learning on Dawang (LoD) is an on-Country program for Aboriginal children aged 8–12 who are disengaging from school. It reconnects young people to culture, strengthens confidence and wellbeing, and supports positive pathways through learning grounded in Country, community and strong role models.
Guided by local leaders and delivered in partnership with East Kimberley College, the program builds strong identity, cultural pride, and pathways back into education.

We’re proud to share that Learning on Dawang (LoD) has officially moved from co-design and pilot delivery into an ongoing program.
Developed alongside community and delivered in partnership with East Kimberley College, LoD provides an alternative education pathway for children, supporting them to reconnect with school, culture, family and community. Through a combination of On-Country learning, classroom education, life skills development and family support, the program helps young people build confidence, strengthen wellbeing and create positive pathways for the future.
Following strong early outcomes, LoD has now secured ongoing support through the Kimberley Juvenile Justice Strategy as part of the Department of Justice’s long-term investment in supporting vulnerable young people and their families.
This milestone reflects what is possible when community, families, schools and partners work together to design solutions that respond to local needs and build on the strengths of our young people.
We thank the young people, families, Elders and community leaders, staff and partners who have helped shape the journey so far and look forward to continuing this important work together.
